ATHENS - Commitment season is starting for Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs.

June isn’t here yet, but the Dawgs have landed another early summer commitment today from three-star defensive lineman Waylon Wooten‍, a multi-year starter for the mighty Grayson Rams.

A thick, powerful defender who can play all over the line, Wooten stands at just 6-foot-1 but brings a 315-pound frame. The Bulldogs originally offered Wooten in the summer of 2024 before he earned offers from Ohio State, Auburn, Georgia Tech, Florida State, among others. He’s been to Georgia multiple times this spring and has always had the Bulldogs high on his list.

In the end, the experienced lineman from Loganville, Georgia chose to stay home and play for Tray Scott and the in-state Bulldogs.

What will Wooten bring to Georgia?

Strength, versatility, and big-game experience.

Wooten may not have giant numbers, but he’s made a major impact on an elite Rams defense for multiple years now. He emerged as a young player and quickly became a dependable defender in the trenches for a Grayson defense that is consistently one of the best in the state.

He may not have ideal measurables, but he does have more length than you’d expect for his height, he plays hard, shows strong hands, and consistently does his job. He can play defensive end or move inside, can take on double-teams, and knows how to wrap up and make a strong tackle when the ball-carrier comes his way. He’s tough to move backwards, shows impressive lower-body strength, and was a big reason why teams have had trouble running the ball against the Rams over the last two years.

Wooten becomes Georgia’s first defensive line commitment in the current 2027 recruiting class.

As a junior last season, Wooten made 32 tackles, 11 TFLs and three sacks. He’s currently ranked as the No. 95 DL prospect in the country.
